Oakdale, Ill., will come to Hunterdon County on Wednesday morning when popular CBS-TV soap opera "As the World Turns'' brings its characters and cameras to Main Street.

Soap fans will have to get up extra early to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars. Plans call for breakfast, meetings and make-up at 6:30 a.m. in the Towne Restaurant at 31 Main St., which will remain open for business during filming.

Dino Rentoulis, manager of the popular restaurant owned and operated by his family for 29 years, said Councilman Gene DeCleene showed the program's location scouts around town before they settled on his place.

Rentoulis was eager to spread the word about his restaurant's brush with fame, but didn't want to get specific about any deals he might have made for use of his space.

"But they will be buying about 30 breakfasts,'' Rentoulis said.

Most of the filming will take place at about 8 a.m. inside and outside the Clinton Book Shop at 33 Main St., where owner Harvey Finkel was told that the film crew might have to move a few things around, but when they're done, he'll never know
they were there.

"It'll be fun,'' Finkel said. "The story is something about a rare book and two parties in conflict over the book, and fake cops get involved.''

The award-winning CBS daytime drama has been holding viewers' attention for more than half a century with the stories of the Hughes, Montgomery, Ryan, Snyder, Stewart and Walsh families. It debuted April 2, 1956 on the television network.

A spokesman for town police said that they had no plans to close Main Street or reroute traffic, but they'll be on alert if their help is needed.
